Be Still & Breathe

It’s officially been a month since relocating my life to Dallas. To say it’s been an adventure is an understatement. This is truly what real life is. The ups & downs, the good and the not so good, all compiling into one big beautiful God story.

Moving here I knew a couple things. I knew that I was going to enter a very raw healing journey, one that is messy yet perfect because it’s all in His love. I also knew that I was joining a community where my God given dreams would be celebrated. I knew that the challenge/promise I was given for this season is that everything that I commit my time to will be purposeful in propelling me into my future. No more busy work. And let me tell you, as much as that is an amazing promise, it is also an equally great challenge to continually surrender all of my tendencies to grasp control over my life and fill in the gaps with busy work just to feel like I’m being productive. So here’s my message for you today…

To all the Dreamers and Achievers:

You have your heart dreams. As a child of God, those dreams and ideas are gifts literally poured into you by God. John 15 talks about abiding in the Lord and this passage is one of the most encouraging treasures to me. You see, when we are in one accord to the Spirit of God, something unlocks. When we allow ourselves to be fully surrendered to Him, our hearts our aligned with His. And when our hearts are aligned with His, our desires begin to reflect His desires for our life, and everything you ask in His name shall be given unto you. So I say to you, that your dreams are firstly the Father’s dreams that He graciously etched onto your heart. With that, do not question or belittle or demean the dreams He has given you. Steward it, believe in it, invest in it, and watch what He will do with it.

There are the seasons of waiting; so in those seasons WAIT. Be still at His feet and breathe in the beauty of His presence because ultimately He is the one holding everything together. Resist the urge to gather the pieces into your own hands just to feel like you are doing something. It’s tempting I know. Trust me, I’m guilty of trying to do that the last two weeks. Then, I had a moment that awakened my heart to the simplicity of God. You see, sometimes we make it all more complicated than it needs to be. At least I know I do. But in reality, the only business plan/formula there is to success is to follow His Spirit. He will bring favor to your relationships, He will anoint what you have and what you are given, He will make the way. He is the one who split the sea, He is also the one who will bring His promises into fruition. I know this sounds too simple and maybe even a bit Christianese; however, as someone who is a “doer” and enjoys seeing things accomplished and checked off to feel productive, I have seen way more fruit in my life when I shift my focus onto tending to His Spirit in my life.

Today I say, wake up! Stop sleep walking in the distorted perspective that you will be the one to bring your dreams into reality. Walk with Him and watch Him unravel a beautiful story. Soon you’ll realize that all this time, you’ve already been living a part of that promise that you were waiting on.
